Rosacea Roll Call

Rosacea Roll Call - GLOWDEGA

April is Rosacea Awareness Month and though it is a chronic skin disease that affects nearly 10% of the world's population, it doesn't get the same PR treatment that other chronic skin conditions do. This post breaks down all you need to know about Rosacea and includes some helpful tips on how to manage the condition.

Rosacea is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition primarily affecting the face, characterized by episodes of flushing, persistent redness, visible blood vessels, swollen red bumps, and sometimes eye problems such as dryness and irritation. Its exact cause is unknown, but it may involve a combination of hereditary and environmental factors. It is often triggered by factors that increase blood flow to the surface of the skin, such as hot foods or beverages, spicy foods, alcohol, temperature extremes, sunlight or wind, emotions, exercise, cosmetics, and certain medications or medical conditions. This skin condition can mimic others like acne or eczema, making diagnosis challenging. Dermatologists typically diagnose the condition based on the history of symptoms and a physical examination of the skin.

The best skin care products for managing rosacea will include azelaic acid, tranexamic acid, hydrating properties, and SPF. A skin care routine for someone with rosacea tends to be more on the gentle and hydrating side with limited actives. At GLOWDEGA®, we often recommend Calming Cleanse, Magic Molecule, Lipid Serum, and Serum 71. Any SPF 30 or higher is good but many with rosacea prefer to use a tinted SPF to minimize the appearance of redness in their day-to-day. We have a few from MD Solar Sciences.

Serum 71 from Circadia contains tranexamic acid, azelaic acid, and mandelic acid making it highly effective for those with rosacea. Our clients see a dramatically reduced appearance of redness within weeks of use! It has definitely become the holy grail for many of our clients who have struggled with rosacea.

If you're looking for an in-studio treatment for rosacea, we recommend both the Hydrafacial and our Level 1 peel. Both facial treatments can be customized to cater to rosacea while still providing glowing results. Book today!
